To test the effectiveness of different glues for trapping the German cockroach (Blattella germanica), individuals of different developmental stages are transferred directly into the traps. After 24 hours the number of individuals that have successfully escaped are counted.

Determining optimum bait box entrance size
We designed a novel experiment which can ascertain the optimum size for bait box entrances used against adult American and German cockroaches (Periplaneta americana Blattella germanica, respectively). Different opening sizes, approximating the sizes of the cockroaches, are tested. During the experiments adult individuals are transferred into a resealed plastic box with holes of a defined size on two sides. This box is placed in another box where food, water and a shelter are offered. After 24 hours the number of the individuals who have left the original box is noted.
